Tan Ba Le Baguette

January 17, 2011 | I went to Tan Ba Le Baguette for lunch with a few friends on a Monday.   I really didn’t know anything about the restaurant, but I’m glad I went!  The bo ne (steak and eggs) came highly recommended, so we each ordered a bo ne.

Not pictured is the basket of fresh bread.  The second image has a small salad plus the butter and pate.

Soooo yummmy!  It was tempting to just eat all of it but I stuck to my normal rule of just eating half and taking home the rest!  It was a delicious afternoon snack as well. =)  I’d definitely go back again for another lunch!

Mai’s Restaurant

July 26, 2009 | Went to Mai’s and ordered the bo luc lac, also known as “shaking beef”, having read that it was good on yelp.

It was served with rice and came with a dipping sauce. The beef was medium-rare, leaning towards the rare on the inside. So if you’re scared meat that isn’t cooked all the way through, then this isn’t for you! I, however, loved it! It was very tasty and I’d definitely order it again.  Plus, it’s great when you can reheat the meat without it becoming overdone.

May 5, 2009 | On my last day in the city, Monica and I met up a friend of mine, Albert.  I think he worked nearby or something?

We met up at Safran at 88 Seventh Ave, for some fancy Vietnamese food.  I say fancy because it was a little more upscale than the typical pho restaurant.  Still, I ordered a pho boox tail beef soup with rice noodle and sliced of beef served with beansprout, basil and hoisin dipping source.

Food was average overall but it was good for the price and location (if you work in the Union Square area).  More than a pho back in Houston, but that’s no surprise (lots of good, cheap Asian food in Houston!)

I did, however, like the meat in my pho (especially the pieces that were initially put in the soup raw).  The decor was really nice too.
