Umai Japanese Restaurant

March 5, 2011

January 4, 2011 | I’m no connoisseur when it comes to Japanese ramen but I have had the opportunity to try the Japanese ramen while I was in Hawaii a few years ago, so I have some idea of what it’s ‘supposed to’ taste like. I’ve heard that Houston doesn’t have a place with really good Japanese ramen and I decided I wanted to find out for myself. Thus, my primary goal of eating at Umai Japanese Restaurant was to try their tonkatsu ramen.

The broth wasn’t nearly as thick as the broth I tried in Hawaii, but I thought it was good. Then again, I’m a lover of noodle soups and as long as the noodles are cooked properly and the soup is flavorful, I’m happy! What I did notice is that it wasn’t very busy at all– there was maybe 1-2 other tables there the whole time we were there.

I’ve still got a few other ramen places to try so we’ll see how they compare…
