December 8, 2010 | Piola is a recent addition in Midtown.  After picking up a menu, I discovered that it was an international chain and was excited to go back to try the food.  I have to admit, I was a little disappointed.

We started off with an order of valle di templi (a whole mozzarella fior di latte with thinly sliced prosciutto crudo sided by fresh cherry tomatoes and fresh basil)– so far, so good.

We each ordered a pizza plus a gnocchi dish. I’ll be honest– I don’t remember the name of the pizzas now but it doesn’t really matter. While the toppings were good, the crust was undeniably flimsy. The bottom of the pizzas couldn’t hold up the top of the pizza AT ALL. I actually used a fork and knife to eat the pizza.  Maybe they didn’t put them in the oven long enough?

The gnocchi was eh. It was on the mushy side. This made me sad because I really wanted to like this place! We even were offered a free dessert pizza (yum)! I’m still willing to give place another shot but I won’t be the one initiating the visit.

Oh yeah, the decor inside is cute/trendy:
